History of Dompu

Tracing back the rich historical heritage of Dompu Kingdom

14th Century

Establishment of the Dompu Kingdom, one of the oldest kingdoms in Sumbawa region. The kingdom played a significant role in regional trade and politics.

17th Century

Spread of Islam in Dompu through traders and religious scholars from other parts of the archipelago. The kingdom adopted Islam as the official religion.

1815

The catastrophic eruption of Mount Tambora affected Dompu significantly, changing the landscape and impacting the kingdom's agriculture and settlement patterns.

1958

Formation of Dompu Regency as part of the administrative structure of the Republic of Indonesia, following independence.
